Areas south of Aberdeen include Stonehaven - a pretty coastal fishing town - and the communities of Portlethen and Newtonhill.
Stonehaven is a sizeable seaside town of approximately 10,000 inhabitants, 15 miles south of Aberdeen. Good road and rail links make for an easy commute into the city. The town has a wide range of housing from 19th century to newly built, full shopping facilities, including local seafood products, and a range of eating establishments. Both primary and secondary education is provided in the town at a number of local schools.
Newly-built housing is also available in the modern housing suburbs of Portlethen and Newtonhill, which are located between Aberdeen and Stonehaven off the main A90 dual carriageway.
Stonehaven harbour plays host to a variety of events, including regattas and the famous fireballs on New Year's Eve.
