Aberdeen North (including Oldmeldrum, Newmachar, Balmedie, Newburgh & Ellon)

Balmedie and Newburgh are small coastal villages where, in recent years, there has been a significant number of new housing developments, however, currently there are limited facilities in this area with the nearest shopping centres being in either Ellon or Dyce.

Newmachar is a small town about 10 miles north of Aberdeen, within easy commuting distance of both Dyce and the city centre. Again, many new houses have been built in the area in the past few years. Locally there is a primary school, a hotel and a variety of shops. Secondary education is catered for at Dyce Academy. Within the surrounding area there is access to a range of recreational activities including local woodland walks, excellent golf courses and a number of fine restaurants.

Oldmeldrum is a similar sized town of approximately 2000 inhabitants, with rail links to both Aberdeen and the nearby town of Inverurie, which has a wide range of amenities. Meldrum Academy is one of the newest secondary schools in Aberdeenshire, and there is also a local primary school. As with most Aberdeenshire towns, there are excellent golf courses nearby.

Ellon is situated approximately 17 miles north of Aberdeen off the main A90 dual carriageway at a crossing of the River Ythan. Originally an agricultural community, it has been a popular commuter town for several years and is well-established as such, with two primary schools and a secondary school, leisure facilities (including a swimming pool and a golf club), supermarkets, restaurants and shops.
